Goodbye to an old friend

He has served us well since 1981 when he was the payment for copyright fees for "Pillar of Fires" from the Israel Broadcasting Authority. He has seen it all 16 mm, 35 mm, smelly vinegar and even inside out and backwards materials. Like everything lately, he actually wasn’t built with planned obsolescence so he kept on working no matter what we threw at him.

Yes, it’s the rewind table, I realize not everyone has such attachment to a machine but he was always there for me, when a new collection came from South Africa totally on tail. When the popped-out core and the subsequent fall out. He could do it all inside out backwards upside down – did it like a champ! I remember the time we discovered an old missing Ben Dov movie which of course was on tail and needed to be gently rewound -you don’t want nitrate to spin to fast. He was the oldest, most consistent member of the staff but like everything he got older, not working during the covid pandemic seems to have been the last straw and so he just decided to jam his engine. The technician tried his hardest but nothing worked and so a new machine was bought. Welcome and we hope you serve us as well as our old friend!
